A live musical journey through Africa, Brazil, Spain, India, and the spiritual imagination of John Coltrane.

John Coltrane searched beyond the boundaries of genre, geography, and convention.
The World Within follows that search.

The World Within is saxophonist and bandleader Irwin Hall's exploration of the global musical languages surrounding John Coltrane's work.
Coltrane's music reached toward West African rhythm, Brazilian form, Spanish flamenco, Indian philosophy, spirituals, blues, and the deepest possibilities of improvisation.
This project does not present those influences as historical footnotes. It brings them into one living performance, shaped by contemporary sound, movement, rhythm, and collective improvisation.
One music.
Many worlds.

The performance moves from the external world toward the internal. Rhythm becomes ritual. History becomes motion. Improvisation becomes a way of listening.

Led by Irwin Hall, The World Within brings together a core jazz ensemble with artists drawn from the musical and cultural traditions at the center of the project.
Additional participating artists will be announced.

Saxophonist, flutist, composer, bandleader, and educator Irwin Hall has performed with artists including Melody Gardot, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ms. Lauryn Hill, David Foster, and El DeBarge.
His work moves between jazz, global musical traditions, live performance, education, and an expanding inquiry into what music can reveal about human connection.
