Irwin has had a rich and diverse career in music education, making an impact across the globe and closer to home. His experience ranges from prestigious institutions in Tokyo, Japan to the vibrant music scene of Hong Kong. As a sought-after guest artist and clinician, he has shared his expertise at Waseda University in Tokyo, the Happy-Go-Lucky Big Band in Hong Kong, the Scuola di Musica Modema in Lugano, Switzerland, and the Dynamix Music Festival in Shanghai, China.

In addition to his international contributions, Irwin has made significant impacts in music education in the New York tri-state region. His tenure as the Director of Music + Education at Jazz House KiDS in Montclair, NJ, Ensemble Director at the Quest Youth Orchestra, Unity Charter School, Summit Charter School, and M.S. 61 in Brooklyn NY showcases his dedication to nurturing young musicians.

Irwin's commitment to education may be influenced by his mother's noteworthy career as a public school teacher in New Jersey. His journey as an educator began during his high school years when he became the youngest faculty member at the Soumas Heritage School of Music in Plainfield, NJ. This early start ignited his passion for teaching, which flourished during his time at Princeton University, where he pursued a minor in Music Performance.

At Princeton, Irwin actively participated in the Jazz-in-the-Schools program and conducted performance workshops at his mother's elementary school. These experiences, combined with his independent private lesson practice, formed the basis for his customized curriculum. His approach to music education emphasizes improvisation, ear-training, reading, theory, and overall music appreciation for ensembles, big bands, and private instruction.

Irwin's dedication to music education, infused with his global perspective, continues to mold the next generation of musicians around the world. His contributions to both local and international music education make him an influential figure in the industry, inspiring young musicians and educators alike.
